Duffy role model assembly

Today we had Gavin Hill visit to talk about the importance of reading. Gavin is part of the famous Hill/Warbrick family which has produced half a dozen All Blacks or Maori All Blacks as well as John and Stan Hill who played for the Tall Black basketball team. Gavin played provincial rugby for Taranaki, Wellington, and Canterbury and also made the NZ Maori Team. He then made the switch to League and played for Canterbury Bulldogs as second row prop. Gavin was one of the first signings for the Warriors, playing for them until 1997. Gavin represented the Kiwis in a test match after just a handful of NRL games under his belt and went on to play 8 tests for the Kiwis. Gavin has gone on the record to state that the proudest moments in his life were when he got the call up to the national team and performing the haka for the Kiwis. Gavin became a world champion when he was part of the 1996 world nines winning New Zealand team. Gavin was part of the New Zealand Maori side that beat touring teams Great Britain and PNG. After returning to rugby union, Gavin took up coaching in the Wairarapa and then coaching in the Auckland team in the NPC in 2008. His interests include fishing and wood turning. Gavin has travelled all over New Zealand visiting schools for Duffy Books in Homes.
