Linwood Connected Kids

Wednesday 17 August 2016

What an exciting and busy start we have had to Term 3 and our Community topic! Last week we visited Shupayi and her team at the Linwood Community Governance Group. We learned about how decisions that affect us and our community are made, and what a community board does.  We also learned why it is really important for our family, friends and whanau over 18 years of age to vote in the upcoming local body elections. We discussed some really important issues going on in our community around fast-food and the skatepark. Finally we got to vote for one of the initiatives we would like to see happen in our school like new science equipment, a dodgeball pit or a friendship bench.

This week we have had guest speakers Jane, a nurse from The Loft upstairs at Eastgate Mall, and Jordan, from the Ara Institute of Canterbury, come and speak to us about the role they play in our community. We learned that Ara offer 150 different courses of study!

Finally a MASSIVE congratulations to Angela, Summer and Tahilanu for being selected for the Canterbury All Stars basketball team The Wolverines!
